A brief profile of the school is provided below, starting with a background to the town and the history of the school, and concluding with a profile of staff and students. GeographyWee Waa is situated on the Namoi River approximately 45km from Narrabri, 600km North West of Sydney in the heart of the thriving cotton industry. It is fully protected from flooding through extensive levee banks surrounding the town. The township supports a population of about 2,000 and acts as a service centre for the surrounding agricultural industries. The Australian cotton industry began in Wee Waa in 1963 and has grown to provide the greatest proportion of today's community income. Wee Waa is now the biggest supplier of certified cotton seed in Australia and the Americas. Away from the irrigated river flats there are significant beef, sheep and grain industries as well as boutique olive and grape growing.
Wee Waa also serves as a business, agriculture, social and educational centre for the smaller towns of Burren Junction, Pilliga and Gwabegar. It is enjoying renewed commitment through recent investment in new and developing businesses in retailing, music, tourism and history. It is supported by an active and enthusiastic community and business support organisation. HistoryWee Waa High School is part of the Moree School Education District and is the youngest High School in north west NSW. It emerged form the established Central School in 1986. The current site has been operational since 1976. Through consistent attention to infrastructure, it continues to offer modern classrooms, superior teaching facilities, high student support and amenities, and an emphasis on technology in the learning environment. Staff ProfileThe staff at Wee Waa High School are young and enthusiastic, consists of fourteen teachers, four Head Teachers, Deputy Principal, Principal, nine Ancillary staff, an Aboriginal Education Assistant and a School Counselor 1 day per week. Staff are grouped into major faculty areas with all teachers linked via a team network to the executive. Ms Haddon is the principal and the deputy is Ms Outram. Student ProfileWee Waa High School provides comprehensive education in years 7 to 12. Within the school there is a wide variety of home backgrounds including, traditional sheep, cattle and wheat farming, farm workers, cotton farmers, contractors, aerial services, The Australian Telescope, laboratory and research services and the professions of engineering, accountancy, banking and business management. The school supports a multicultural population including students with American, Asian, African, European, Australian and Aboriginal backgrounds and from a large and diverse geographical background. Sport has a significant focus at Wee Waa High School. Teams are actively fielded in local, district and state wide competitions e.g.. athletics, football, touch football, swimming, tennis, soccer and softball. School representatives have been numerous and success in post HSC access to employment and further education.
